Nine officials of Albania's Ministry of Economy arrested on corruption charges

Nine officials of Albania's Ministry of Economy were arrested on Thursday during an anti-corruption police operation codenamed "Calibration", local media reports. Among the arrested were the Deputy Director General of Metrology Roland Celmeta, the regional director of metrology for the district of Tirana Moisi Musabelliu and 7 inspectors. The nine are accused for receiving bribes in return for issuing fake declarations regarding the quality and measurement of fuels.

They face charges for passive corruption, exercising unfair influence, embezzlement and abuse of power. Albania's Ministry of Economy said in a statement that it distanced itself from corruptive actions of individuals who misuse their office.
